Mateo undertakes a perilous return journey to the United States across the Sonoran Desert. Guillermo, a ghost he has newly met, accompanies him. Julio Anta’s graphic novel, illustrated by Jacoby Salcedo, combines a supernatural borderland journey with questions of migration, sacrifice, home, and love. Mateo’s passage and Guillermo’s presence place the dangers of crossing the desert alongside an otherworldly companionship.
