Inspired by a true event, this historical-fiction picture book features Chester Pierce, a Black college football player in 1947. At that time, Black players could not compete at southern schools; opposing teams responded by benching a player of comparable ability. The book uses a football play to examine Jim Crow restrictions, race relations, and teamwork during the civil rights era.
