Fish in a Tree

Ally Nickerson is a sixth-grade student who has hidden her reading difficulties from teachers and classmates for years. A substitute teacher, Mr. Daniels, recognizes her intelligence and helps her begin to accept herself and develop literacy. With support from him and her friends, Ally learns that she is smart after being identified as dyslexic. The novel addresses belonging and the limits of conventional schooling.
