Emma is learning ballet, while Julia is a professional ballerina preparing for an evening performance. Both look forward to the show at the theater: Emma watches from the audience, and Julia dances onstage. After the performance, Emma goes backstage to meet the ballerina she admires. Over the course of one busy day, Julia prepares for the performance attended by the young ballet student. The illustrations use ink, gouache, and watercolor.
