Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands

Kate Beaton’s autobiographical comic recounts her time working in Alberta’s Athabasca oil sands. Originally from Atlantic Canada, she took the job to repay student loans. The book grew from a five-part webcomic she posted in 2014 and was published by Drawn & Quarterly in 2022. Its title refers to an incident in which hundreds of ducks landed in a toxic tailings pond and died.
