Dreidels on the Brain

During Hanukkah in 1971, middle-schooler Joel tries to make it through life in suburban Los Angeles. He performs magic tricks, uses some Yiddish, and meets an unusual stranger on a bus. Joel’s encounters lead him toward an appreciation of life’s small miracles. The novel portrays his growing up as a Jewish boy while placing the holiday at the center of the events described.
