Down on the Bayou

During a Louisiana vacation, Troy goes on a boat trip through the bayou with his grandfather and Uncle Joe. His grandfather explains that a bayou is a shallow, slow-moving, muddy river, but Troy discovers that it is more than that description. Their journey brings up the bayou’s environment and history, as well as his grandfather’s recollections and Troy’s imagination. Facts and pieces of a poem appear alongside the story.
