Tyne Greer, known as Tiny despite being six foot six, is a gifted high-school basketball player who hopes the sport can carry her out of the slum where she lives. Her father is superintendent of the rundown building called the Zoo. After finding a crack in a wall in an abandoned basement room, Tyne discovers a corpse in her Toronto tenement. She and her boyfriend investigate, uncovering family secrets that reach back decades.
