Marianne Blume believes she is not smart and has learned to get through school with luck, deflection, and personality rather than sustained effort. Feeling overshadowed by her high-achieving older sister, she often disengages in class. When she risks failing a class, repeating eighth grade, and being separated from her best friend Skyla, Marianne needs extra credit. She joins the school’s Quiz Quest team, whose members have struggles of their own, and must work with them to pursue a win.
