Blocks
Irene Dickson, illustrated by Irene Dickson
Ruby builds with red blocks while Benji uses blue ones. When Benji wants one of Ruby’s blocks, he takes it, and their dispute becomes a tug-of-war over who owns it. Both structures fall. After a brief moment of regret, the two children use red and blue blocks together to make something new. A third child, Gus, joins them at the end with green blocks. The spare text and mixed-media scenes focus on the children’s shifting play, from separate projects and conflict to cooperation.
