Artifice

During Nazi occupation in Amsterdam, Gallery de Smit’s art is confiscated while artists are hidden or deported, and the Nazis take Dutch cultural works. Isa faces unpaid taxes on the empty gallery and decides to sell the regime a forged Rembrandt painted by her father. The transaction puts her close to being regarded as a collaborator, while raising the question of whether the forgeries can serve another purpose. The story draws on historical figures.
