In an alternate version of Earth, most animals became extinct centuries earlier, leaving humans and giant beings. Mira, a seventeen-year-old giant, rescues Hawk, a wild human, when he is about to be killed and eaten. Hawk has left his forest village on a dangerous mission, bringing danger to their encounter. The novel presents a world in which the killing of animals for food is part of its allegory, alongside adventure and a forbidden romance.
