An Appetite for Miracles

Danna Mendoza Villarreal tries to help her grandfather as memory loss causes him to fade from himself, using foods he once reviewed to awaken memories. Her love of food also intensifies a difficult relationship with her mother. Raúl Santos plays guitar for older adults while dealing with his mother's wrongful incarceration. Told in verse, their story brings together family pressures, young love, cultural expectations, and social justice in the lives of two Mexican American teenagers.
