Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is Lewis Carroll's 1865 classic about a bored girl who follows a waistcoat-wearing White Rabbit down a rabbit hole into a world where nothing behaves as it should. Alice grows and shrinks at the wrong moments, swims in a pool of her own tears, takes tea with the Mad Hatter, trades riddles with the Cheshire Cat, and finally faces the Queen of Hearts across a croquet lawn. The book is famous for its wordplay, logic games and nonsense verse, and mathematics runs through it: its author lectured in mathematics at Oxford, and generations of readers have enjoyed the puzzles, inversions and rule-bending tucked into the story.
