A Way with Wild Things

Poppy is most at home outdoors, where she notices insects and spends time among wildflowers. Around other people indoors, she tends to blend into the background. Her love of small creatures becomes impossible to hide when a dragonfly lands on her grandmother’s birthday cake. Poppy comes forward to see it, and the party guests notice both the striking insect and Poppy herself. The story follows a shy girl whose close attention to nature leads to a moment of visibility at a family celebration.
