A Poem for Peter: The Story of Ezra Jack Keats and the Creation of The Snowy Day

Andrea Davis Pinkney

This account traces the life of Ezra Jack Keats, the artist and creator of The Snowy Day. Born in Brooklyn to Polish immigrant parents facing hardship, Ezra showed artistic ability early, winning prizes and scholarships while still in school. His path later included work with the WPA and Marvel comics. After many years, he was able to write and illustrate his own book. The narrative also follows the long-held photographs that helped inspire his creation of Peter.
