After he prepares a potion that saves the princess, the Emperor offers him a reward while refusing the marriage. Pong Lo instead makes an unexpected request involving a single grain of rice. His use of mathematics enables him to outwit the Emperor and gain extraordinary wealth. An afterword explains the story’s mathematics, alongside pencil illustrations.
