A Bike Like Sergio’s
Maribeth Boelts, illustrated by Noah Z
Ruben wants a bicycle like his friend Sergio’s, but knows his family cannot afford one. While buying groceries, he sees a neighbor drop a hundred-dollar bill and puts it in his pocket. The money could buy the bike he wants, and Ruben spends the next day or so considering whether to keep it. He ultimately decides to return the money, despite how difficult that choice is for him. The story also shows the everyday financial pressures Ruben’s family faces.
