Bored and lonely, Giraffe sends a letter as far as he can and begins corresponding with Penguin. The two animals become long-distance friends, although Giraffe knows little about penguins. His letters are full of questions, including questions about Penguin’s appearance and where a penguin’s neck might be. Penguin replies as well as he can, and their exchange leads to a face-to-face meeting. Their friendship grows through letters, curiosity, and mistaken assumptions about one another.
