Charlotte Lockard and Ben Boxer are online friends who know each other through a Scrabble game, though more than a thousand miles separate them. Charlotte lives near Philadelphia and wants to become a geologist; she keeps a collection of rocks in her room. Ben lives in the small Louisiana town of Lanester. Over the course of a week, the two friends’ lives intersect unexpectedly as both try to navigate the upheaval and challenges of middle school.
