Yaks Yak: Animal Word Pairs
Linda Sue Park
This picture book pairs animals with actions that share the same spelling and pronunciation. Yaks talk, ducks duck, rams ram, and other animals act out verbs made from their own names. Each spread focuses on one homograph pair in a whimsical scene, along with a definition of the action word. A chart at the back gathers the animal-and-action words and explains their etymology, including cases where the verb comes from the animal’s behavior.
