The writings came from a 1932 literary contest and were among hundreds discovered in a Lithuanian church cellar in 2017. Through these young people’s accounts, the book describes life in Eastern Europe on the eve of World War II, including joy, romance, humor, and tragedy. Two-color illustrations and back matter accompany the narratives.
