Voices of the People
Joseph Bruchac
This free-verse collection honors the lives, achievements, and legacies of 34 Indigenous Americans. Each biographical poem is paired with art by a contemporary tribally enrolled artist. Some artists share the featured person’s nation, while others come from another Native nation and connect their work to the subject’s biography. The artwork addresses present-day ideas and concerns, including concerns that resemble those faced by earlier generations. Mixed-media illustrations accompany the profiles.
