Village of Scoundrels

Set in Vichy France during World War II, this novel draws on the actions of villagers who sheltered Jews and other people targeted by Nazism. The villagers helped people evade capture and cross into Switzerland. French teenagers take part in efforts to protect refugees despite the dangers involved. A Jewish boy learns document forgery to help his mother, then later uses those skills to save many more lives. Photographs, grayscale illustrations, a timeline, and a bibliography accompany the narrative.
