To the Top of the World: Barbara Hillary, the First Black Woman to Reach the North and South Poles

This picture-book biography follows Barbara Hillary, the first Black woman to reach both the North Pole and the South Pole. As a child, she imagined a life filled with adventure. Despite childhood hardships and illness as an adult, she continued pursuing travel and exploration. At age seventy-five, she reached the North Pole, then reached the South Pole less than four years later. Her travels also revealed that remote places she cared about faced threats from climate change.
