The Year the Maps Changed

In 1999, eleven-year-old Winifred, called Fred, is coping with major changes in her family. Her birth father has never been part of her life, her mother died years earlier, and her stepfather Luca is expecting a baby with a new girlfriend. At the same time, Australia begins receiving Albanian refugees from Yugoslavia, and Fred’s town prepares to take in hundreds of people seeking safety from the Kosovo war.
