The Keeper of Stories
Caroline Kusin Pritchard, illustrated by Selina Alko
This true story recounts a 1966 fire at the Jewish Theological Seminary library in New York. Thousands of books were destroyed, while many surviving volumes were left waterlogged and at risk of ruin. Firefighters responded to the emergency, and people from across the neighborhood joined a large effort, later called Operation Booklift, to salvage the remaining books. The book follows a community working to preserve a library’s stories and memories.
