The Field Guide to the North American Teenager

Sixteen-year-old Norris, a Black French Canadian, moves with his Haitian-born mother from Montreal to Texas. Starting at an Austin high school, he sorts the students he meets into categories such as cheerleaders, jocks, loners, and a “manic pixie dream girl.” As a French-speaking ice hockey player in a new place, Norris has to reconsider his identity. The story follows his encounters with school cliques, new relationships, and a move that reshapes how he sees himself.
