THE BOY AND THE ELEPHANT

A lonely boy visits a lot beside his home, where the outlines of the trees become an elephant in his imagination. He regards the elephant as his friend. When the trees that make up its body are marked to be removed, he acts to protect it. Told without words and illustrated in pencil and oil paint, the story joins loneliness, imagined companionship, and concern for trees at its center.
