The Band in Our Basement

After bedtime, two siblings hear music coming from their basement. Their father’s band is practicing there, and the children cannot resist leaving their beds to watch. Downstairs, the grownups in their Black family are playing jazz together while the children try to get a look without being caught. The story uses rhyme to follow the siblings’ nighttime sneak downstairs, with gel-printing and digital artwork showing the family’s musical session.
