After his girlfriend breaks up with him, River Dean wanders into a teen support center. There, he pretends to be an addict, unintentionally entering the group under false circumstances. River is brokenhearted, and the situation eventually brings him face to face with his own abandonment issues. Set on the streets of Los Angeles, the novel follows his response to the breakup and the consequences of the identity he assumes at the center. It is a coming-of-age story about emotional pain and self-confrontation.
