Take a Sad Song

In the summer of 1970, fifteen-year-old Jane is grieving her father’s death and begins partying in an attempt to manage that loss. After she stays out late with a boy, her mother reports her as a runaway, leading to Jane’s arrest and placement in a girls’ reformatory. There, Jane struggles to cope with her circumstances while finding support from others. The novel is told in free verse.
