Surviving Santiago

During the summer of her sixteenth year, Tina Aguilar returns to Santiago, Chile, despite not wanting to go back to her homeland. It is 1989, in the final months of Pinochet’s rule. A Chilean American teenager, Tina goes to reconnect with her father, an activist whose alcoholism shapes their reunion. Her return brings family ties into contact with Chile’s political circumstances.
