Stolen Justice: The Struggle for African American Voting Rights

This history follows African Americans’ fight for voting rights from 1787 into the twenty-first century. It gives particular attention to the post-Reconstruction period, when voting rights in the United States were contested and suppressed. The book considers the question raised after the Civil War of whether formerly enslaved people should be granted the vote, and traces the longer struggle that followed. Archival photographs, images, back matter, and sources accompany the historical examination of political rights and their denial.
