Sports (fiction) Game Seven
Paul Volponi
Sixteen-year-old Julio Ramirez Jr. hopes to play shortstop for Cuba's national baseball team. His father, a Miami Marlins pitcher, defected from Cuba, leaving Julio, his sister, and their mother behind and marking them as relatives of a traitor. Julio then receives a chance to sail to the United States. That opportunity forces him to consider leaving his family in a way that echoes his father's departure.
