Smart George

George is a puppy whose mother poses simple addition questions, but he would prefer eating, walking, or sleeping. In a dream, trees and other creatures question him about numbers and expect replies. The book moves from his refusal to work on sums into this imagined situation, where he is compelled to confront arithmetic. Cartoon illustrations accompany George’s number-filled dream.
