Slavery and the African American Story (Race to the Truth)

This history tells the story of slavery in America from an African American perspective. It begins with the arrival of Africans on what became the United States and describes how their labor shaped the economy, government buildings, and American society. The book follows a struggle for freedom that began when enslaved Africans first arrived and continued long before the Emancipation Proclamation, signed roughly three centuries later. It also addresses slavery’s origins and the division of the country over ending it.
