In this novel in verse, Geetha moves with her mother from India to Rhode Island following her parents’ divorce. She misses the people, dog, and familiar life she left behind, while at school other students target her clothing, food, and English. Playing the flute and writing poems offer Geetha comfort. She becomes friends with Miguel, who shares some of her concerns, and together they help an injured harp seal on the beach. As Geetha’s anger grows, she must also confront pollution that harms the sea and animals, her difficult move, and the challenges affecting her new friend.
