Rules for Being a Girl

Marin is a high school senior, a strong student, and coeditor of the school newspaper with plans for Brown University. Her English teacher, Mr. Beckett, praises her writing and talks with her about books, until he makes an unwanted advance toward her. Shocked by his behavior, Marin faces a disturbing event that disrupts the future she had expected. The novel examines the unspoken expectations placed on girls and the consequences Marin confronts.
