Rostam’s Picture-Day Pusteen

Ryan Bani Tahmaseb

Rostam has recently moved to the United States with his mother, while his father remains in Iran. As a new student, he worries about school picture day because he is expected to wear a traditional vest, or pusteen. He fears that the clothing will seem unusual to other children. The vest, however, leads him toward acceptance. The story follows an Iranian immigrant boy facing a school event while carrying a connection to his family’s culture.
