Rooting for Plants: The Unstoppable Charles S. Parker, Black Botanist and Collector

This picture-book biography follows Black botanist and mycologist Charles S. Parker. After serving overseas in World War I, he studied botany, cataloged plants in the Pacific Northwest, and developed a preservation method. Parker taught at Howard University, encouraged young Black people to become scientists, and continued fieldwork across the United States. The account also notes how the destruction of forests and plants he witnessed during the war shaped his path.
