Rhino’s Run
Robert Lipsyte
Ronnie “Rhino” Rhinehart is a high school football captain in Woodhaven, where the team is central to town life. He wants a Division I scholarship so he can leave town, but punching another student puts his place at school in jeopardy. Ronnie is required to join a counselor-led group where students talk about their feelings. Pressure also builds on the team, including resentment over his captaincy, while his father expects him to hold onto that role. Friends, new relationships, and political events surrounding a school shooting push Ronnie to reconsider his assumptions about leadership and safety.
