Required Reading for the Disenfranchised Freshman

Black scholarship student Savannah Howard enters Wooddale University, a prestigious college with a predominantly white student body and a racist history. She encounters microaggressions, racism, and white privilege on campus. Although her attendance realizes her mother’s hope for a better life, Savannah must navigate a campus with a different set of rules from the academic path she believed would bring her there. She had pursued difficult classes, perfect grades, and a full scholarship.
