Radiant

Set in 1963 Pennsylvania, this novel in verse centers on Cooper Dale, a fifth grader and the only Black student in her class. Cooper tries to understand what it means to shine while facing an especially strict teacher and bullying from Wade Carter. Her mother cleans Wade’s wealthy white family’s home for extra income. Against a backdrop of national events, Cooper also shares a love of the Beatles with her older sister.
