Aimée, a non-binary Anishinaabe middle-schooler, joins a class trip to leave offerings for water spirits who protect the land. Distracted by the bullying and isolation they have experienced, Aimée wanders away and enters another world. There, figures from Anishinaabe storytelling become part of an adventure inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Guided by the water spirits, Aimée must help Trickster, confront a Queen intent on taking the land, and find a way home. Elizabeth LaPensée's graphic novel brings questions of identity and belonging into a story about community and protecting the land. KC Oster provides the illustrations, with Anishinaabemowin translation by Aarin Dokum.
