Poppies of Iraq

Brigitte Findakly recounts an Iraqi childhood in Mosul during turbulent periods in the country’s history. Her memories include middle-class family life, cultural practices, school, and her family’s Orthodox Christian identity in the Arab world. The account also addresses Saddam Hussein’s state control. Told in graphic form, the book combines simple illustrations with family photographs. It was co-written and drawn with cartoonist Lewis Trondheim.
