Playing Atari with Saddam Hussein

At the beginning of 1991, eleven-year-old Ali Fadhil loves soccer, video games, and American television. When Iraq goes to war with a coalition led by the United States, Ali and his Christian Kurdish family endure forty-three days of bombings, food shortages, and fear in Basra. Ali and his brothers play soccer in abandoned neighborhood streets while wondering whether their medic father will return from the war front.
