Working as a bilingual assistant at the New York Public Library, Pura finds no such stories on its shelves. She begins sharing them in bilingual story times, using puppets as well, then writes the cuentos down so they can become books. The account includes her first published tale, Pérez y Martina, and traces her work as a storyteller and writer.
