Not Perfect

Dot compares herself with family members whose accomplishments seem perfect: a blue-ribbon painting, a spelling-bee tie, and a tae kwon do black belt. Her own attempts produce unusual cupcakes, squeaky piano notes, and near misses in soccer. Frustrated by errors, she takes on a school art project while worrying about her friend Sam’s standard of perfection. Dot’s efforts confront the gap between trying hard and getting everything right.
