Nimoshom and His Bus

Children ride to school with Nimoshom, their bus driver, who shares Cree with them during the trip. Nimoshom means “my grandfather,” and the story draws on the author’s memories of her own grandfather. The daily bus ride becomes a setting for children to hear and learn words in Cree from an adult who speaks their language. Illustrations accompany this simple account of language shared in a familiar routine.
